Generate sample plots

Modified on Mon, 24 Feb at 9:49 AM

The Generate sample plots block allows you to create a new feature collection made up of randomly selected, uniformly sized ‘plots’ within your input feature collection.

When carrying out a VCS Methodology VM0047 Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation assessment, use this block to create both control and project plots.

Align to

Choose the image collection (raster) dataset that you will be using for analysis.

This dataset's pixel grid defines plot boundaries. This increases accuracy when adding attributes with the Zonal Statistics block.

To make an image collection available to use, create a workflow using the dataset as your input, and add the Save data for reuse block.

When doing a VCS Methodology VM0047 assessment, it is sensible to align to your Stocking Index (SI) dataset.

Plot size

Choose a plot size as a factor or the area of the pixel.

UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) Grid

To create plots without using a dataset, select ‘UTM Grid’ and specify the size of the plot in metres.

Number of plots

Enter the number of plots to generate. If the feature collection is too small, the maximum possible plots will be generated.

Minimum overlap

Sets the minimum overlap area of the plot with the feature collection. By default, plots with less than 75% overlap with the feature collection are discarded.
