Step 1: Check ARR project eligibility

Modified on Mon, 31 Mar at 10:42 AM

Before conducting a VM0047 assessment, we need to establish that the ARR project area doesn’t include any areas of wetlands or organic soils. If the project area does contain areas of wetland or organic soils, you will need to use separate or additional methodologies (these are listed below).

Earth Blox template: VM0047 Step 1: Check ARR project eligibility

Steps for running the workflow

1. Load the ARR Project area

  1. Remove the sample project area by selecting Delete from the area menu

  2. Add your project area by selecting  Add area > Upload new feature

  3. To keep this project area in Earth Blox and use again later, check ‘Save to Assets’

If you’ve already uploaded your project in Earth Blox, select Choose from Assets.

2. Run the workflow and view results

Click the Run button on the workflow to generate the map layers and table.

Click on the Dashboard tab to see the generated table.

Table: Percentage of project covered by wetland

This shows you the percentage of your project area that is wetland, and the percentage that is non-wetland.

If your project area does include wetland (above 0%) cross reference with the map layer ‘Wetland class’ to check the type of wetland. For tidal wetlands, a VM0033 assessment rather than a VM0047 assessment must be carried out. Depending on whether the species that have been planted are naturally occurring, a different methodology may apply.

Map layer: Wetland Class

Use this layer to check the type of wetland. To see this layer, turn off the visibility of the layer above. In this example, there are areas of wetland close to the perimeter of the site.

If there are no wetlands, the legend will only show the label ‘no data’.

Map layer: Peatland fraction

This layer shows you if your area includes any peatland. In this example, approximately two thirds of the area is peatland.

If any non-naturally occurring species have been planted in peatland areas you will also need to carry out a VM0036 assessment.

3. Determining which methodology applies

If you need to carry out a VM0033 or VM0036 assessment, get in touch with the Earth Blox team.
